Anee Gets Home Ministry, Salahuddin Ahmed Takes LGRD
The government has reshuffled key ministerial portfolios following the decision to nominate BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for the country’s 23rd presidential election.
The changes were decided on Thursday (August 13) afternoon, with the government reallocating portfolios to ensure continuity in administrative affairs following Mirza Fakhrul’s expected departure from the cabinet.
Under the new arrangement, former home minister and BNP National Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has been given charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD), which was previously held by Mirza Fakhrul. Meanwhile, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, who was serving as water resources minister, has been given charge of the Home Ministry.
According to sources concerned, Mirza Fakhrul began the process of stepping down from his administrative responsibilities after his candidacy for the presidency was confirmed. The portfolios were consequently redistributed quickly to maintain the government’s administrative chain of command and ensure uninterrupted operations.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi will serve as the BNP’s acting secretary general. The decision to redistribute the portfolios was taken following an emergency review by the government’s policymaking circle and the cabinet on Thursday afternoon.
The changes come as the government prepares for the next phase of its political and administrative activities.
This is a developing story.
