Anti-Fascist Movement Killings: Trial to be Transparent, Impartial, Says PM Tarique Rahman

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured that individuals responsible for the killings during the anti-fascist movement will face transparent, impartial, and credible trials conducted under the due process of law.

Addressing a discussion titled "July-36" following the inauguration of the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum at Ganobhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, the Prime Minister emphasized that establishing justice for every crime remains essential to upholding the rule of law across the nation.

Ensuring Justice and Honoring Martyrs

The Prime Minister announced that local institutions across the country will be named in honor of every individual martyred, forcibly disappeared, or killed over the past 17 years of authoritarian rule and during the July Mass Uprising.

Addressing state rehabilitation measures, he noted that over 13,000 gazetted July fighters are currently receiving monthly honorariums directly through bank transfers. Additionally, 50 critically injured individuals are undergoing advanced medical treatment abroad in countries including Thailand, Singapore, Türkiye, and Russia.

Preserving Non-Partisan Democratic History

Highlighting the historical significance of the newly established memorial museum at Ganobhaban, Tarique Rahman stressed that the national institution must preserve the authentic democratic struggles of the Bangladeshi people rather than serve as a platform for any exclusive political narrative. He remarked that while the 1971 Liberation War was fought to achieve national independence, the 2024 uprising was waged to safeguard state sovereignty and individual liberty.

Warning against attempts to create instability in a post-fascist Bangladesh, the Prime Minister urged all quarters to avoid unnecessary controversy that could inadvertently pave the way for the resurgence of ousted autocratic forces.

State Reforms and High-Profile Dignitaries

Reiterating the administration's commitment to state rebuilding, Tarique Rahman confirmed that phased implementation of the 31-point election manifesto and the July Charter has officially commenced, alongside ongoing work by parliament's Special Committee on Constitutional Amendment.

Former Interim Government Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus attended the event as a special guest. The inauguration was also attended by cabinet ministers, service chiefs, foreign diplomats, senior government officials, and family members of July uprising martyrs.
