Opposition Speaking in Sheikh Hasina’s Language, Says Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticized present opposition leaders, stating that their political rhetoric mirrors the language previously used by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Speaking at a discussion meeting held at the National Press Club on Monday (August 3) to mark the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, the LGRD Minister noted that opposition leaders claiming "we will not allow this government to remain in power for five years" are echoing historical Awami League stances. He recalled that back in 1991, the Awami League similarly declared it would not allow the government a single moment of peace.

Addressing misconceptions surrounding the July Charter, Mirza Fakhrul refuted claims that BNP opposes its execution. He stated that the Consensus Commission had imposed a question regarding the national referendum, effectively deceiving the nation, and that BNP merely voiced its points of disagreement. He assured that BNP remains committed to implementing every signed section of the July Charter.

While acknowledging that street demonstrations remain a fundamental political right, the minister cautioned against actions that could lead to confrontation. He urged political forces to foster a culture of tolerance and unity instead of spreading negative propaganda, noting that the Prime Minister is continuously working for public welfare.

On the topic of press freedom, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that the current administration maintains zero interference with media operations. He added that he intends to consult with the Prime Minister regarding potential employment solutions for unemployed journalists.
