India's Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst escalating student demonstrations across the capital.

Pradhan announced his decision via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, just hours prior to the scheduled third round of negotiations between protest representatives and central government authorities.

The resignation of the Education Minister served as a primary demand of the student groups who have been demonstrating at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for over a month.

Previous rounds of dialogue between government officials and protest leaders had stalled due to firm demands regarding Pradhan's departure. Earlier on Saturday morning, representatives reiterated that further discussions would not proceed unless the central government removed Dharmendra Pradhan from his ministerial position.
