Md. Abu Shadik, popularly known as Shadik Kayem, the Vice President (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and the International Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, has stepped down from his organizational responsibilities within the student front. Sadiq Kayem himself officially confirmed the development to The Daily Campus today, Monday (July 13).

Explaining the structural transition, Sadiq Kayem stated that Chhatra Shibir reshuffles its leadership hierarchy twice a year. He noted that his formal departure from the student organization was finalized during the semi-annual leadership setup of 2026.

The decision follows his nomination as Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's official mayoral candidate for the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections. Jamaat's leadership publicly announced his candidacy more than two months ago, on May 1, during a central conference of sub-district and divisional leaders held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) council hall in the capital's Kakrail.

Following that declaration, high-level organizational sources within Chhatra Shibir clarified that according to the constitutional framework of the student organization, an active office-bearer is strictly barred from contesting any local or national government elections under the direct banner of a mainstream political party. Consequently, his resignation from the student wing marks a formal shift to mainstream municipal politics.
