Nusrat Tabassum Takes Oath as Member of Parliament
NCP leader Nusrat Tabassum has officially taken her oath as a Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seats in the 13th National Parliament. The swearing-in ceremony took place today, Wednesday (May 6), shortly after 12:00 PM.
According to sources from the Parliament Secretariat, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered the oath to Nusrat at his office in the Parliament building. The proceedings were conducted by the Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan.
Following the ceremony, the newly elected MP signed the official oath book in the Parliament Secretary's room, adhering to established parliamentary traditions. The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker, the Chief Whip of the Opposition, and senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat.
Nusrat Tabassum’s journey to the parliament was marked by a significant legal challenge. The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the election was April 21 at 4:00 PM. However, Nusrat submitted her documents at 4:19 PM, leading the Election Commission (EC) to reject her nomination due to the delay.
Refusing to accept the decision, she moved to the High Court seeking redress. After hearing her petition, the court directed the EC to accept her nomination papers and take subsequent legal actions. Following the court's intervention, the EC declared her nomination valid during the scrutiny process and subsequently issued the official gazette notification confirming her election.
