Barrister Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, daughter of late former State Minister for Food and Disaster Management Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury, has been nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for a reserved women’s seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.

She is set to become the first woman from Barlekha to serve as a Member of Parliament, following in the footsteps of her father, who was the first State Minister from the area.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the final list of 36 candidates for the reserved seats on Monday (20 April) at 12:00 pm.

Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, a barrister-at-law from Lincoln’s Inn, UK, and an alumna of Harvard Business School, is widely recognised for her achievements. She made history in Bangladesh’s corporate sector by becoming the first woman appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink. She later transitioned into public service and successfully contested the general election.

She is married to Barrister Zeeshan Hyder and is the mother of a son.

BNP sources said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally interviewed several aspirants before finalising her candidacy.
