BNP Nominates Wives and Daughters of Leaders for Reserved Women’s Seats

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced its final list of 36 candidates for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi unveiled the list on Monday (20 April).

Several nominees are close family members of senior BNP leaders. Among them are:

  • Nipun Roy Chowdhury, daughter of Cultural Affairs Minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury
  • Barrister Syeda Shakila Farzana, daughter of former MP and Whip Syed Wahidul Alam
  • Shirin Sultana, wife of Khairul Kabir Khokon, MP from Narsingdi-1
  • Bithika Binte Hossain, wife of late Swecchasebak Dal President Shafiul Bari Babu
  • Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, daughter of late former State Minister for Food and Disaster Management, Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury

The party sold 1,025 nomination forms, of which around 900 were submitted. Each form cost Tk 2,000, and candidates had to pay Tk 50,000 as a security deposit.

Interviews with aspirants were held on 17 and 18 April by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and members of the Standing Committee.
