Afroza Abbas, Papia, Konokchapa Missing from BNP’s Reserved Women’s Seat List
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has released its final list of 36 candidates for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the list on Monday (20 April).
Notable absentees from the list include several prominent women leaders who played significant roles in the party’s long movements and struggles. Among them are Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas (wife of Mirza Abbas), former MP Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia, popular singer Konokchapa, Baby Nazneen, Mohila Dal’s Agriculture Affairs Secretary Selina Hafiz, Hasna Jasimuddin Mowdud (wife of late leader Mowdud Ahmed), Rokeya Chowdhury (teacher at Khilgaon Model University College), Rumana Mahmud (wife of former State Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and ex-MP), and actress Rukaiya Jahan Chamak.
Rizvi said the national committee members conducted interviews with aspirants over two days. After the interviews, the nomination board finalised the 36 candidates.
