The Election Commission has finalized the allocation of reserved seats for women in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The schedule for these seats will be published on 8 April, and voting will take place on 12 May. This decision was made at the 11th Commission meeting held on Monday (6 April) at the Election Commission Office in Agargaon.
Seat Distribution:
- BNP Alliance — 36 seats
- Jamaat-e-Islami — 13 seats
- Independent — 1 seat
Six independent MPs have formed a separate bloc. BNP is contesting with three allied parties, while Jamaat has two allies. Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and lawmaker Rumin Farhana have decided not to join any alliance.
After the meeting, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Akhter Ahmed confirmed the details to the media.
He also informed that by-elections for Sherpur-3 and Bogura-6 constituencies will be held on 9 April. The Commission has reviewed the law and order situation in both areas and expressed confidence that the polls will be held peacefully.
Akhter Ahmed said, “We have no reason to be worried. The law enforcement agencies are active and continuously monitoring the situation. This election is no less important than the 12 February election.”
He added that no discussion was held regarding local government elections during today’s meeting.
