Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today paid rich tributes to his parents, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He placed wreaths at their graves at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 12:00 noon. This came a day after he took oath as the country’s 11th Prime Minister following BNP’s landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election.

Later, flanked by his new cabinet colleagues, the Prime Minister placed another wreath at the graves. They offered Fateha and prayed to Almighty Allah for eternal peace for the departed souls of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. The visit marked a personal moment of respect amid his first full day in office.

Tarique Rahman, also BNP Chairman, took oath as Prime Minister on Tuesday at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office and secrecy to him and his cabinet. The cabinet comprises 25 ministers and 24 state ministers, five days after BNP won 212 seats out of 297 in the February 12 polls.
