Newly elected Members of Parliament in the 13th National Parliament took their oath on Monday at the Oath Room of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath on Tuesday (17 February) at around 10:45 am. BNP MPs took oath first, followed by Jamaat-e-Islami, then other parties including National Citizen Party and independents.

The ceremony began shortly after 10:30 am with Quran recitation. It was conducted by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Moula. After the oath, MPs signed the oath book, mentioning their constituencies and the date.

The new cabinet oath is scheduled for the same day at 4 pm at the South Plaza of Parliament. President Md. Sahabuddin will administer the oath to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other ministers. This is the first time in Bangladesh's history that the cabinet oath will be held at the South Plaza, with over 1,000 local and foreign guests in attendance.

Four-layer security has been arranged around the Parliament area with 15,000 personnel from police, RAB, army, and BGB. Special units like SWAT, bomb disposal, and canine units are on standby. Traffic on Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road has been closed since morning, with DMP issuing a diversion notice on Monday.
