Newly elected Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Members of Parliament in the 13th national election took their oath of office today at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath at 10:43 am in the Oath Room, conducted by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Moula. The lawmakers subsequently signed the oath book.

BNP has decided that its MPs will not accept duty-free cars or government plots, reflecting a commitment to restraint. The party secured 209 seats in the February 12 election, with alliance partners Gano Odhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), and Gano Sanghati Andolan each winning one seat.

Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the main opposition with 68 seats, while its alliance partners National Citizen Party (NCP) won 6, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis 2, and Khelafat Majlish 1. Islami Andolan Bangladesh secured 1 seat, and independents won 7 constituencies.

The Election Commission published the gazette for 297 of 299 seats on Friday night. Results for Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 were postponed, and voting in Sherpur-3 was deferred due to the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
