The 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum will be held Thursday, 12 February. With campaigning in its final stretch, many wonder when results will be released. The Election Commission (EC) says the results will be announced by Friday, 13 February.

Dispelling talk that results might take up to three days, Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar said the outcomes will be declared the day after voting. He added that this year’s polling environment will be more peaceful and orderly than past elections.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, 8 February, at the EC headquarters on “Election situation and Commission preparedness,” he said concerns about the polls have been overcome with everyone’s cooperation and that the EC aims to deliver a fair, acceptable election on Thursday.

Asked if holding the parliamentary election and referendum together could delay results, he replied, “Not three days in any way; results will be given by Friday. Modern automation and multiple devices will allow rapid data collection, though remote centres may see slight delays.”

He said multiple monitoring teams will operate in each constituency, sending updates to the central monitoring cell every two hours. Centres with electricity will have CCTV, and security personnel have been instructed to use body-worn cameras. A special “fact-finding cell” will counter social media rumours.

On law and order, he said conditions are better than before. All forces will work in coordination under returning officers and the Commission’s direct supervision. Around 1.1 to 1.2 million personnel from all forces will be deployed for election security.
