All Educational Institutions Closed Today on Government Holiday

Due to the government’s declaration of a public holiday, classes and examinations will remain suspended in all educational institutions across the country today, Wednesday (31 December).

The government issued a gazette notification announcing a one-day public holiday on 31 December through executive order, in mourning for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The notification was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday (30 December).

The gazette states: “In accordance with serial 37 of the part of the Ministry of Public Administration under Allocation of Business among the Different Ministries and Divisions (Schedule One of the Rules of Business, 1996) revised up to April 2017, the government has declared a one-day public holiday on Wednesday, 31 December, through executive order in mourning for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. All government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain closed during the holiday.”

Dhaka University Declares 3-Day Mourning

Dhaka University (DU) has declared three days of mourning from today Tuesday to Thursday as a mark of highest respect and honour for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. All classes and examinations at the university have been suspended during these three days. As part of the mourning, the Dhaka University flag is being flown at half-mast.

All Classes and Examinations Suspended at Jahangirnagar University

Jahangirnagar University (JU) administration has expressed deep grief over the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. All administrative activities, classes, and examinations at JU have been suspended today Tuesday (30 December). The information was confirmed in a notice signed by the Acting Registrar of the university, ABM Azizur Rahman.

Islamic University Teacher Recruitment Board Postponed

All activities of the recruitment selection board for the post of Lecturer in the Pharmacy Department at Islamic University have been postponed due to the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. This was informed in a notice signed by the Acting Registrar of the university, Professor Dr Monzurul Haque, on Tuesday (30 December).

Junior Scholarship Examination Postponed

Due to the government’s declaration of a public holiday tomorrow Wednesday (31 December) in mourning for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the final day of the Junior Scholarship Examination has been postponed. This was announced on Tuesday in a notice signed by Professor SM Kamal Uddin Haider, Controller of Examinations of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and Member Secretary of the Executive Committee of Junior Scholarship Examination 2025.

46th BCS Oral Examination Postponed

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has postponed the two-day oral examination of the 46th BCS. This was informed in a notice signed by Cadre Examination Controller Masuma Afreen on Tuesday (30 December). The notice stated that due to the three-day state mourning and public holiday on 31 December following the demise of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at 6:00 am on Tuesday, the oral examinations scheduled for 31 December and 1 January have been postponed.

Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination Postponed

The written examination for recruitment of assistant teachers in government primary schools scheduled for Friday has been postponed. The decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the Primary Education Directorate today Tuesday (30 December). Later, this was informed in a press release. The release stated that due to the state mourning programme, the written examination for Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2025 in government primary schools scheduled for 2 January (Friday) will now be held on 9 January (Friday). The examination will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the designated centres as previously scheduled.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Oral Examination on 31 December Postponed The oral examination for the post of Junior Statistical Assistant of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) scheduled for 31 December 2025 has been postponed. This was informed in a notice published on the bureau’s website today Tuesday (30 December 2025). The notice stated that due to unavoidable reasons, only the oral examination on 31 December 2025 has been postponed. Examinations on other dates as per the published schedule will continue. The revised date for the oral examination will be informed later.

TCB Oral Examination Date Changed

The date of the oral examination for the post of Office Assistant-cum-Computer Typist of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has been changed. This was informed in a notice published on the organisation’s website today Tuesday (30 December 2025). The revised date for the oral examination is 5 January 2026. The examination was originally scheduled for 31 December 2025.

Earlier, after being under treatment for 37 consecutive days at Evercare Hospital in the capital, Begum Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday morning. Her funeral prayer will be held tomorrow Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building and Manik Mia Avenue.

After the janaza, she will be buried beside her husband, former President Ziaur Rahman. The government has stated that the funeral prayer and burial of the former Prime Minister will be conducted with full state honours.
