BNP finalises alternative candidates for Khaleda Zia’s three reserved seats
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has finalised alternative candidates for the three parliamentary seats reserved for its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the 13th national parliament election.
On Monday (29 December), the last day for submission of nomination papers, the party is expected to submit nomination papers in the names of Khaleda Zia for the three seats — Bogura-7, Dinajpur-3, and Feni-1 — while also submitting papers for the alternative candidates.
Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka in a critical condition. Taking her health situation into account, Dhaka South City BNP convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu has been kept as the alternative candidate for Feni-1. For Bogura-7, Upazila BNP president Morshed Alam, and for Dinajpur-3, former mayor Syed Jahangir Alam have been instructed by the party high command to remain prepared.
Meanwhile, BNP has made last-minute changes in the candidacy of at least 15 seats to ensure victory in the final battle of the election. The strategic adjustments have been made primarily based on field-level surveys and political calculations. The party is finalising all arrangements on the last day of nomination submission.
Alternative candidates have completed their preparations alongside the submission of nomination papers in Khaleda Zia’s name. They will take further steps according to the final instructions from the party high command, the concerned candidates said.
