Dr Tasnim Jara, who resigned from the National Citizen Party (NCP) to contest the upcoming national election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9 constituency, has begun collecting the required signatures from voters.

She started the signature collection drive in her election area from Sunday (28 December) morning. By evening, she announced that nearly 3,000 voter signatures had been gathered in just one day.

In a post on her verified Facebook page around 9:30 pm, she wrote: “Since this morning, I have been collecting your signatures. So far, around 3,000 signatures have been collected. Our target is to fulfil the requirement of a total of 5,000 signatures.”

Praising the role of volunteers in the signature collection, she further said: “Innovative volunteers like Mahi, Sagarika, and Rafi are taking forms from us and returning them with 10-20 signatures each in a very short time.”

Earlier on Saturday evening, Tasnim Jara announced her resignation from NCP and her decision to contest the election independently from Dhaka-9 through a Facebook post.
