National Identity Registration Wing Director General Humayun Kabir has said that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will receive his National Identity Card (NID) within a minimum of 7 hours and a maximum of 24 hours after completing his voter registration application.

He made the statement while speaking to journalists after inspecting the biometric data collection (photograph and fingerprint) process at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon around 10:30 am on Saturday (27 December).

Humayun Kabir explained that it is not possible to specify an exact time for NID preparation after biometric information is submitted, as the process is entirely software-dependent with no human intervention.

He said that in some cases, the NID is generated in 5 to 7 hours, while in others it may take 10 hours or slightly longer. However, the maximum time limit is within 24 hours. Once biometric data verification is complete, the NID number is automatically generated by the system.

The NID DG further stated that the Election Commission has made all necessary preparations for Tarique Rahman’s biometric enrolment. The designated room where he will provide his photograph and fingerprints has already been prepared.

Earlier, Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman completed their online voter registration applications. Both will be registered as voters in Ward No. 19 of Gulshan area under Dhaka-17 constituency.

The Election Commission announced the schedule for the national parliament election on 11 December. On 22 December, a BNP delegation met Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin. After the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that Tarique Rahman would complete his voter registration and NID-related formalities on 27 December following his return to the country.
