Plot Allocation Graft: Verdict in Hasina-Rehmana-Tulip case today

A Dhaka court will deliver its verdict today Monday (1 December) in a graft case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, daughter Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and 15 others over alleged irregularities in plot allotments in the Purbachal New Town project.

Justice Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 will pronounce the judgment in the morning.

ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin filed the case on 13 January. Initially filed against Sheikh Rehana for abusing power to obtain a 10-katha plot in Purbachal's diplomatic zone, it later included Sheikh Hasina and 15 more accused. After investigation, two additional accused were added on 10 March, bringing the total to 17.

The other accused are: Md Saiful Islam Sarkar (administrative officer, Housing Ministry), Purbi Goldar (senior assistant secretary), Oliullah (additional secretary), Kazi Wasi Uddin (secretary), Md Anishur Rahman Mina (PA to former RAJUK chairman), Mohammad Khurshid Alam (former RAJUK member), Tanmoy Das, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (Engr) Samsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (retd), Md Nurul Islam (former director), Majharul Islam (assistant director), Nayeb Ali Sharif (deputy director), and later-added former PM's private secretary Mohammad Salahuddin and former Housing State Minister Sharif Ahmed.

On 31 July, the court framed charges and ordered the trial to begin. Thirty-two witnesses testified. ACC Public Prosecutor Mainul Hasan said: "We have proven the charges against the accused with all evidence." He added that the judgment will finalise the legal process and sentences for the accused.
