Jamaat-e-Islami to Finalize Election Candidates in Coming Days: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman announced that the party will finalize its candidates for the upcoming national elections within the next few days.
Speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Tuesday upon returning from a 15-day trip to Saudi Arabia, the US, and the UK, he said, “BNP has yet to announce 237 candidates, but Jamaat-e-Islami prepared a probable list a year ago. The final list will be formalized soon.”
Dr. Rahman emphasized responsible politics, stating, “Differences of opinion are part of democracy, but political parties must prioritize national interest and avoid conflict.”
He praised expatriates’ remittances for bolstering the economy and urged the Election Commission to extend voter list updates by 15 days to include more overseas Bangladeshis.
On his role, he said, “I wasn’t elected Amir; colleagues entrusted me with this responsibility. Wherever I went abroad, I spoke for the country and earned praise.”
