Israel Threatens to Turn Part of Beirut into ‘Gaza-like Ruins’
Israel has issued a stark warning that it could reduce a section of Lebanon’s capital Beirut to rubble resembling Gaza’s devastated landscape if the Lebanese government does not halt Hezbollah’s rocket attacks.
The threat came from an Israeli official speaking to The Times of Israel late Wednesday (11 March), shortly after Hezbollah launched a heavy barrage of rockets into northern Israel overnight.
The official stated: “If the Lebanese government cannot control Hezbollah, then a part of Beirut will soon look like Gaza.” He emphasized that Lebanon must reassert control over its territory, warning that areas with strong Hezbollah presence would be targeted.
Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, have been repeatedly hit by Israeli strikes in the past, facing more intense attacks compared to other parts of the city.
The warning follows escalating cross-border exchanges, with Hezbollah firing rockets in response to Israeli operations in southern Lebanon and the broader regional conflict.
