Iran has claimed responsibility for shooting down a US F-15 fighter jet over Kuwait. Video footage released on Monday (2 March) shows the aircraft spiralling downward from the sky. Tehran asserts that the American F-15 jet was struck by an Iranian missile.
According to initial reports, the pilot successfully ejected using the ejection seat and survived.
The incident is being reported as an apparent friendly fire event involving the US Air Force, although neither US Central Command nor the Pentagon has officially confirmed details of the crash.
The online-released video shows the jet slowly rotating downward with flames trailing from its rear. It remains unclear whether the aircraft belonged to the United States or Israel, as Israel also operates F-15 fighter jets.
