49th BCS: DU graduate who ranked first in social welfare omitted from gazette

Abdullah Al Mamun Belal of Dhaka University, who ranked first in social welfare in the final results of the 49th BCS (Special) examination, has been left out of the final gazette.

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) had provisionally recommended 668 candidates for appointment in the final results. However, the gazette published on Wednesday (September 30) lists 611 appointments, leaving 57 of the provisionally recommended candidates out.

Mamun is a student of DU’s Institute of Social Welfare and Research. He secured first place in social welfare in the final results, but his name was not found in the subsequently published gazette.

After the gazette was published, Mamun expressed his frustration in a Facebook post. He wrote, “Honourable Prime Minister, thank you for depriving me of the gazette. Even after securing first place in social welfare in the 49th BCS, my name did not appear in the gazette. I was active in July. I could not understand what my crime was. Is this my crime? Surely, Allah is the best of judges.”

The BPSC had provisionally recommended 668 candidates in the final results of the 49th BCS (Special) examination. The Public Administration Ministry later issued a gazette appointing 611 candidates to entry-level posts in the Bangladesh Civil Service (General Education) cadre.

As a result, 57 of the 668 candidates provisionally recommended in the final results were not included in the final gazette.

Earlier, it was reported that DU History Department graduate Mohammad Sohel Rana, who ranked first in History in the 49th BCS final results, was also among those whose names were absent from the final gazette.
