49th BCS final gazette published, 57 provisionally selected candidates dropped

The final gazette for the 49th BCS (Special) examination has been published, with 611 candidates appointed to the Bangladesh Civil Service (General Education) cadre.

A total of 668 candidates were provisionally selected in the final results, meaning 57 names have been left out of the final gazette. The gazette, published on Wednesday (September 30), did not specify the reasons for excluding the 57 candidates.

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) published the final results of the 49th BCS on November 11 last year. At the time, 668 candidates were provisionally recommended for appointment against 683 vacant posts in various positions under the BCS (General Education) cadre.

The BPSC had said no candidates could be recommended for 15 posts as suitable candidates were not available. Following subsequent verification and other formalities, the final gazette now lists 611 appointments.

According to the BPSC notification, the 611 candidates have been appointed to entry-level posts in the BCS (General Education) cadre on the basis of the commission’s recommendation dated November 27, 2025. They will receive salaries under the National Pay Scale 2026, with a pay range of Tk 44,000 to Tk 105,900, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

Anger over exclusion from gazette

The exclusion of some provisionally selected candidates has sparked frustration among those whose names did not appear in the final gazette.

One such candidate, Dhaka University student Sohel Rana, expressed his disappointment in a Facebook post. He said he had secured first place in the BCS (General Education) cadre and was also the top-ranked student from the university’s Department of History.

“Thank you, Bangladesh, for depriving me of the gazette despite securing first place in the 49th BCS Education Cadre,” he wrote.
