A heavy bearing pad (spring) used to absorb vibrations from metro train movement dislodged and struck a pedestrian, causing his instant death. The incident occurred around 12:15 pm on Sunday (October 26) in front of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute near Farmgate Metro Station.

The victim, estimated to be aged 35-40, was walking on the footpath with a bag when the barrel-shaped spring—weighing 40-50 kg—fell and hit his head. It then smashed into a nearby betel nut shop, shattering the glass front and injuring two people inside.

Eyewitnesses reported the man died on the spot. His identity remains unconfirmed.

Local police and fire service rushed to the scene, recovering the body and securing the area. Authorities are investigating the structural failure, with the metro rail authority yet to comment. The incident has raised safety concerns over the elevated track's maintenance amid ongoing operations.
