Pakistan High Commissioner's Residence in Dhaka Catches Fire; Envoy and Wife Hospitalised

Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider and his wife, Naima Imran, were admitted to a Dhaka hospital after suffering smoke inhalation when a fire broke out at their official residence in Baridhara early Thursday, hospital sources said.

Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider and his wife, Naima Imran, have been hospitalised after a fire broke out at the envoy's official residence in Baridhara, an upscale diplomatic area in Dhaka.

The couple were admitted to Continental Hospital in Gulshan at around 9:00 am on Thursday, August 6, according to the hospital's control room, which confirmed the information to The Daily Campus. Hospital sources said both are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Preliminary information indicates that the fire started at approximately 4:55 am, apparently due to an electrical short circuit inside the residence. The High Commissioner and his wife were taken to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties caused by smoke inhalation.

Hospital officials said the couple are being treated under the supervision of Dr Amina Sultana. Their condition is currently reported to be stable.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of the damage caused by the fire or provided details on how it was brought under control. The relevant authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
