Nine Family Members Burnt in Early Morning Explosion at Chattogram Flat
Nine people from two families were seriously injured in an explosion and fire at a second-floor flat in Halima Manjil, Halishahar, Chattogram, around 4:15 am today (Monday). The blast is believed to have been caused by a gas line leak.
Firefighters from five units responded quickly and brought the fire under control by 5:30 am, according to Senior Station Officer Khalilur Rahman of Halishahar Fire Service. The explosion damaged walls and window glasses in two flats on the same floor.
The injured victims are:

- Anas (7)
- Ummay Ayon (10)
- Shawon (17)
- Shipon (32)
- Sumon (40)
- Rani (40)
- Pakhi (35)
- Shakawat (46)
All were immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Dr. Rafiqul Islam, head of the burn and plastic surgery unit, said all suffered inhalation injuries along with burns ranging from 25% to 100% of their bodies.
Fire service officials suspect a gas line leak as the cause, though the exact trigger is still under investigation.
