Japan produced a powerful display to move to the brink of the Women’s Asian Cup quarter-finals, overwhelming India 11-0 in Perth on Saturday.

Hinata Miyazawa and Riko Ueki each scored hat-tricks, while Yuzuki Yamamoto opened the scoring after just four minutes. Miyazawa added two more before halftime as Japan led 5-0 at the interval. Ueki then completed her treble in the second half, with Miyazawa capping her performance with a third goal.

The result leaves Japan atop Group C with six points from two matches, having previously defeated Taiwan 2-0. They have scored 13 goals without conceding.

Taiwan and Vietnam each have three points after Taiwan’s 1-0 win over Vietnam earlier in the day in difficult 40°C heat. Su Yu-hsuan headed in the only goal in the 26th minute. Vietnam, who had beaten India 2-1 in their opener, managed only one shot on target.

India remain bottom of the group without a point seeming to no answers against Japan.

North Korea, South Korea, hosts Australia, and defending champions China have already secured quarter-final places with one group match remaining.
