Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) returned to Ligue 1 action with a shock 0-1 defeat against Monaco on Saturday, just days after their commanding Champions League win.

The French champions, who had opened up a four-point lead at the top, slipped to their second league loss of the season at Stade Louis II. Japanese midfielder Takumi Minamino's 68th-minute strike sealed the victory for the hosts.

Despite the setback, PSG remain top with 30 points from 14 matches (9 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses). Monaco climb to sixth on 23 points from the same number of games, while second-placed Marseille have 28 points from one match less.

Monaco dominated proceedings, registering 10 shots with five on target compared to PSG's four efforts. The first half was a tepid affair, with Minamino's early strike brilliantly saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma and Mohamed Salisu hitting the post.

PSG struggled to create clear chances, their attack blunt without the flair of their European display. Monaco capitalised in the second half, Minamino coolly slotting home the winner past Donnarumma.

Monaco's task grew easier in the 80th minute when defender Thilo Kehrer was sent off, but PSG's late flurry from Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele and Nuno Mendes came too late.

Monaco's next match is at Brest, where a win would propel them to the summit. PSG host Rennes at the Parc des Princes in a bid to bounce back.
