Heatwave Alert Issued for 29 Districts: Severe Heat Expected Until 26 April
The Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) has issued a heatwave alert for 29 districts across the country.
According to the warning, intense heat is likely to prevail from Tuesday (21 April) to 26 April. The public has been advised to stay indoors during peak sunlight hours to avoid health risks.
In a Facebook post, BWOT stated that while mild heatwaves have been affecting some areas in recent days, the situation may intensify into moderate to severe heatwaves in parts of Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, and Dhaka divisions from 21 April onward.
The districts expected to experience the highest temperatures (36°C to 39°C, with some areas possibly reaching 40°C) include: Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Pabna, Bogura, Kushtia, Meherpur, Jhenaidah, Chuadanga, Jessore, Magura, Narail, Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Tangail, Narayanganj, Madaripur, Chandpur, Cumilla, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and surrounding areas.
People have been urged to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, stay in cooler places, and drink plenty of water while avoiding extremely cold beverages to reduce the risk of heatstroke.
