Though the biting cold has eased somewhat across the country, the minimum temperature is still hovering in the 8-degree range. Amid this, the Meteorological Department has issued a fresh forecast of rising winter intensity.

According to the forecast, from coming Tuesday (January 13), day temperature across the country may fall by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, making the cold feel even more pronounced. Though dense fog is likely to persist from midnight to morning, this warning of renewed winter severity over the next few days has heightened public anxiety.

Quoting meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallik, it is reported that a mild cold wave is currently sweeping over districts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, including Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia. This cold wave may continue in places over the next two days.

According to the weather office, till 6 pm on Sunday and Monday, the weather may remain dry with temporarily partly cloudy sky across the country. However, moderate to thick fog may fall in river basins and light to moderate fog elsewhere during this period.

The temperature forecast states that day temperature may remain nearly unchanged across the country on Sunday and Monday. Night temperature may rise slightly on the first day but fall slightly across the country the following day. However, from Tuesday, while night temperature remains nearly unchanged, day temperature may drop noticeably. At the same time, day temperature may decrease slightly further on Wednesday and Thursday. Though the weather will remain dry during this period, fog intensity is likely to stay at previous levels.

Notably, on Saturday (January 10) evening, the country’s lowest temperature was recorded at 8.3 degrees Celsius in Tentulia of Panchagarh and in Chuadanga. At the same time, the minimum temperature in the capital Dhaka was 12.4 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department further stated that there is no possibility of any major change in the overall weather situation in the country over the next five days. As a result, the current winter severity may persist for several more days.
