Mild earthquake jolts Dhaka again

A mild tremor was felt across the capital and surrounding areas on Thursday morning (4 December) at 6:14:45 am.

Residents in Dhaka’s Banshree, Sabujbag, Mahakhali, and Dhanmondi confirmed feeling the quake to The Daily Campus. The tremor was also reported from Gazipur and Narayanganj.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.1 and its epicentre was in Shibpur, Narsingdi.

This is the second tremor felt in Dhaka within a week. On Monday night (1 December) at 12:55 am, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake originating in Falam, Myanmar (depth 106.8 km) was felt across Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet divisions, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

No casualties or damage have been reported from either event so far.
