A low-pressure system off the southeast coast of Sri Lanka has intensified into a deep depression and is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm.

System 1: Cyclone "Senior" in Malacca Strait The cyclone "Senior" struck Sumatra, Indonesia, and has since weakened. Over the past 12 hours, it has moved slowly east-southeast and degraded into a deep depression. It is expected to weaken further and become a low-pressure area within the next 6-12 hours.

Currently, sustained wind speeds within 50 km of the centre are up to 55 km/h, gusting to 70 km/h.

Impact on Bangladesh: No threat to Bangladesh or the northern Bay of Bengal.

System 2: Low pressure off Sri Lanka's southeast coast The low-pressure area off the southeast coast of Sri Lanka has intensified into a deep depression and is likely to become a cyclonic storm. Currently, sustained wind speeds within 50 km of the centre are up to 65 km/h, gusting to 80 km/h.

It is expected to intensify further in the coming days and may move north-northwest toward the Tamil Nadu coast in India.

Impact on Bangladesh: No threat to Bangladesh or the northern Bay of Bengal.

The systems are being closely monitored by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, with no alerts issued for local areas.
