The Education Ministry has called an emergency meeting to discuss the transfer of MPO-listed teachers working at private schools and colleges. The meeting is scheduled for 3pm on Wednesday, October 28. A source at the Education Ministry told The Daily Campus on Tuesday, October 27, that the meeting will be held on the fourth floor of the International Mother Language Institute.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, Secondary and Higher Education Division Additional Secretary (holding the additional charge of secretary) Dr Sardar Md Keramat Ali, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Director General Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, and officials from Teletalk are expected to attend.

An unnamed DSHE official told The Daily Campus, “An emergency meeting has been called to discuss teachers’ transfers. Technical issues will be discussed at the meeting. Teletalk has updated the software. The meeting will discuss whether the transfer results can now be published.”

Asked why the meeting was called despite Education Ministry Senior Secretary Abdul Khaleque being abroad, the official said, “An intelligence report has indicated that teachers are preparing to launch a movement over the publication of the transfer results. That is why the emergency meeting was called. More details will be available after tomorrow’s meeting.”

Meanwhile, teachers and employees working at private educational institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) system are preparing to launch a movement demanding transfers, prompt implementation of the ninth pay scale and full festival allowances ahead of the upcoming Eid. They said the movement would begin with a sit-in programme on November 4.

MPO-Listed Education Nationalisation Aspirants Alliance Member Secretary Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi told The Daily Campus on Monday. He said nearly one and a half months had passed since applications were accepted, but the transfer results had yet to be published. As a result, teachers working hundreds of kilometres away from their hometowns were being forced to live in inhumane conditions. He demanded the immediate publication of the transfer results.

Principal Azizi said government employees would receive salaries under the ninth pay scale from this month, while there was still no certainty about when MPO-listed teachers and employees would receive salaries under the new scale. He called for the issuance of an official directive to implement the pay scale for MPO-listed teachers and employees to end the uncertainty.

The teachers’ leader also said government employees receive festival allowances equivalent to 100% of their basic salaries, while MPO-listed teachers and employees do not, creating significant inequality in employment conditions.

Pointing out that MPO-listed employees do not receive several allowances, Azizi called for the disparity to be removed and full festival allowances to be introduced. MPO-listed teachers and employees will hold a sit-in on November 4 to press these three demands.
