101 teachers to receive Tk 200,000 each on World Teachers’ Day

Government to honour teachers from primary to higher education with cash awards, crests and certificates

The government will honour 101 distinguished teachers from across Bangladesh on World Teachers’ Day on Monday (October 5), with each recipient receiving Tk 200,000, a crest and a certificate of recognition.

The number of teachers receiving the honour has been increased significantly this year. Previously, the government used to honour 12 teachers on the occasion.

The awards are being given in recognition of teachers’ contributions to nation-building. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the ceremony as the chief guest at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Monday afternoon and hand over the awards to the teachers.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan will preside over the programme.

Who will receive the honour

This year, the government has selected 101 distinguished teachers from different levels of education, from primary schools to higher education.

The recipients include 10 teachers from the primary level, 20 from secondary education, 25 from colleges, 20 from general universities, 10 from medical education, three from agricultural universities, three from engineering universities, four from science and technology and specialised universities, and six teachers selected by the prime minister.

At the primary level, 10 teachers will be honoured, including eight from general education and teachers from madrasa education. At the secondary level, the recipients include 10 from general education, five from technical education and five from madrasa education.

Among the 25 college-level recipients, 15 are from general education, five from technical education and the remaining recipients are from madrasa education.

At the university level, 20 teachers from general universities will receive the honour, including 18 from public universities and two from private universities. Ten teachers from medical education will also be recognised, with five from medical colleges and five from medical universities.

In addition, three teachers from agricultural universities, three from engineering universities, four from science and technology and specialised universities, and six teachers selected by the prime minister will receive the award.
