MPO-listed teachers and employees working at private educational institutions will receive salaries under the ninth national pay scale, according to the Ministry of Finance. Although neither of the two ministries concerned has confirmed an exact implementation date, the government is reportedly planning to bring MPO-listed staff under the new pay structure through a separate gazette notification by December.

Sources at the Ministry of Finance said a separate gazette notification for MPO-listed teachers and employees was issued relatively quickly when the eighth pay scale was introduced in 2015. However, implementing the new salary structure for them took six months at the time. The process is taking some time again, but officials expect it to be completed sooner than it was under the eighth pay scale.

A senior Finance Ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “Efforts are being made to introduce this benefit by December this year. If it is not possible in December, it will be implemented in January next year.”

Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel also confirmed that MPO-listed teachers and employees would receive the ninth pay scale.

“We want MPO-listed teachers and employees to receive salaries under the ninth national pay scale as soon as possible. Regular discussions are taking place with the ministry to this end. There may be some delay, but teachers will also receive salaries under the new pay scale,” he said.

According to available information, an additional Tk 13,392 crore will be required to bring 602,359 MPO-listed teachers and employees under the new pay scale. Of this amount, Tk 12,518 crore will be spent on salaries and allowances, while the remaining funds will be required for pensions.
