Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milon has announced that the allocation for the education sector in the current year stands at 2 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He highlighted that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year will see the highest allocation for education, amounting to a staggering 1.23 lakh crore BDT in monetary terms.

The Education Minister shared this information with journalists at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, immediately following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Addressing a long-standing grievance within the teaching community, the Education Minister stated that the government will systematically resume the disbursement of retirement allowances for educators who have been deprived of their Welfare Trust benefits since 2022.

To operationalize these pending disbursements, the administration has successfully secured a special block allocation of 2,000 crore BDT. The Minister confirmed that the official distribution process under this fund is scheduled to commence within a month.

However, Dr. Milon also pointed out severe financial irregularities from the past, noting that several thousand crore BDT had previously been misappropriated and embezzled from the Teachers' Welfare Trust fund.
