Bangladesh’s headline inflation eased to 8.71 percent in March, down from 9.13 percent in February, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Sunday.
The decline was mainly driven by a drop in food inflation, which fell to 8.24 percent in March from 9.30 percent in February.
Non-food inflation, however, increased slightly to 9.09 percent from 9.01 percent in the previous month.
- Rural inflation stood at 8.72 percent
- Urban inflation stood at 8.68 percent
This moderation comes after inflation rose to a 10-month high of 9.13 percent in February, driven by higher food prices ahead of Ramadan and increased election-related spending.
The country has been battling persistently high inflation for over three years, which continues to put significant pressure on low-income and poor households.
