Online Metro Card Recharge Starts Today: Here's how
Commuters using Dhaka’s metro rail will no longer have to stand in long queues to recharge their permanent cards, as the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) launches online top-up facility today, Tuesday (25 November).
The service, to be inaugurated at Agargaon metro station under the slogan “Line noy, online – recharge ekhon haater muthoy” (No line, go online – recharge now in your palm), will allow users to add balance to both Rapid Pass and MRT Pass cards from home using credit/debit cards, bKash, Nagad, Rocket or any online banking platform.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which operates the metro rail, and DTCA have jointly introduced the facility with technical support from private firm Datasoft.
Currently, 55 per cent of metro rail passengers use permanent Rapid Pass or MRT Pass cards, while the remaining 45 per cent opt for single-journey tickets.
How to recharge online
- Register and log in at the DTCA website or mobile app
- Select “Recharge” and choose Rapid Pass or MRT Pass
- Enter the desiredified card number and desired amount
- Complete payment via card or mobile financial service
- Visit any metro station and tap the card once on the Add Value Machine (AVM) to update the balance
The final step of tapping at an AVM is mandatory for the recharge to reflect on the card.
The new system is expected to significantly reduce congestion at ticket vending machines and improve passenger convenience across the MRT Line-6.
