Police have arrested Mithu Biswas in connection with the gang rape of a 25-year-old former student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) by identified drug peddlers in Savar's Birulia area.

The arrest was made during a dawn raid on Sunday (October 19) in Tejgaon Thana's Tenjkhunjipara area. Mithu Biswas (44), son of S. Raphael, hails from Kamalapur Goalio in Savar.

Savar Model Thana's Police Inspector (Operation) Helal Uddin confirmed the matter this morning.

Earlier, on Thursday night (October 16), the victim filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against Mithu and two others. The other accused are Sohel Rosario (37) and Biplob Rosario (40), both from Kamalapur Goalio.

According to the case FIR, police, and local sources, the victim was returning home after tutoring a primary school student on Tuesday evening (October 14). Upon reaching her house, she found it locked, with her mother having left the key at a neighboring tea shop. As she went to retrieve it, intoxicated Sohel Rosario accosted her with questions. Shortly after, Mithu and Biplob joined him, and they began following her.

Around 7:00pm, Sohel lured the frightened woman to his house, where he and the other two raped her. They threatened her life if she told anyone.

Savar Model Thana's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jewel Miah said, “Mithu had been absconding since the incident. He was arrested from Tejgaon and brought to the thana. Operations are underway to apprehend the others. They will be brought to justice soon.”

Mithu Biswas has been produced in court with a seven-day remand application.
