Rashed Khan, General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, has demanded a public trial for army personnel involved in the violent attack on party President Nurul Haque Nur and over 50 activists, rejecting secret proceedings under the Army Act. Speaking to journalists at Dhaka Medical College on Saturday, August 30, 2025, while visiting Nur, Rashed condemned the assault and accused authorities of spreading misinformation to downplay the incident.

Rashed dismissed claims that Nur was not the target, calling them “lies” meant to create confusion. He alleged that a man in a red shirt was used as a pretext to obscure the truth. “Police and army personnel, particularly army members, carried out this attack,” Rashed stated. “They must face a public trial, not a secretive one under the Army Act. We will file a case to ensure justice.”

He further criticized the unprovoked brutality, noting that neither police nor administration summoned the army, yet they “deliberately” stormed the Gono Odhikar Parishad office, attacking Nur and other activists. “The way they entered our office and beat our leaders and workers is utterly unacceptable,” Khan said, describing the assault as planned and unjustifiable.

Rashed reiterated his call for accountability, declaring, “The police and army, especially the army personnel involved, must be held accountable through a public trial. We will pursue legal action to ensure this happens.”
