Police have detained a man named Tuhin for questioning in connection with the death of 13-year-old Oprotim, whose body was recovered from Kotbari in Cumilla on Saturday. Oprotim’s body was recovered around 1pm from a wooded area beside Magic Paradise Park near Cumilla University.

Inspector Mahibul Alam Bhuiyan of Kotbari Police Station confirmed the detention, saying Tuhin was taken into custody as part of the investigation into the incident. Oprotim was the only child of Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bangla at Cumilla University. Police found signs of serious injuries to his head when his body was recovered.

According to a general diary filed with police, Oprotim left his home in Kotbari under Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station around 3:30pm on Friday (September 18). He did not return home afterwards. Oprotim was a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School.

After he went missing, his mother appealed for help in a Facebook post. She wrote:

“I have not been able to find my son since 3pm. His name is Oprotim. He is 13 years old and studies in Class Seven. He was wearing this panjabi when he went missing. He took my iPhone to take pictures with his friends and did not return. Please help from wherever you can. I beg you to help save my son. I have informed the police.”

Police said the investigation is underway. The circumstances surrounding Oprotim’s death and Tuhin’s alleged involvement will be determined through the investigation.
