Body of Cumilla University teacher’s son found near campus

The body of a 13-year-old boy who went missing from the Kotbari area of Cumilla has been recovered from a wooded area near Cumilla University. The body of Oprotim was recovered around 1pm on Saturday from a forested area beside Magic Paradise Park, near Gate 6 of the university. Police said he had sustained a serious injury to his head.

Oprotim was the only child of Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bangla at Cumilla University. He was a Class VII student at Border Guard Public School.

Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Cumilla South Police Station, and Saiful Islam, a sub-inspector at the Kotbari Police Outpost, confirmed that the boy’s body was found in a wooded area near the hills beside Gate 6 of Cumilla University.

Police said they were heading to the scene after receiving information about the discovery. According to the general diary filed with police, Oprotim left his home in Kotbari under Ward 24 of Cumilla Sadar South around 3:30pm on September 18. He did not return home afterwards.

Before his body was found, his mother appealed for help in a Facebook post, saying she had been unable to locate her son since 3pm. She said Oprotim was 13 and studied in Class VII. According to her post, he had gone out wearing a panjabi and had taken her iPhone to take photos with friends before disappearing. The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been established. Police said they were investigating the incident.
