The Bangladesh government has transferred 11 senior police officials, including the chiefs of the Special Branch (SB) and Tourist Police, in a major reshuffle.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued two separate gazette notifications on Thursday, one transferring six additional inspectors general of police (Addl IGPs) and the other five deputy inspectors general of police (DIGs). Both notifications cited public interest as the reason for the transfers.

Special Branch chief Sardar Nurul Amin has been transferred to Police Headquarters as an additional IGP, while Police Headquarters Additional IGP Kamrul Ahsan has been appointed as the new SB chief, according to the notification.

Tourist Police chief Additional IGP Md Mainul Hasan has been transferred as principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi. The academy’s principal, GM Azizur Rahman, has been transferred to the post of Tourist Police chief.

Dhaka Range DIG Md Iqbal Hossain, who was also promoted to additional IGP, has likewise been transferred to Police Headquarters.

Five DIGs transferred

The second Home Ministry notification covers five DIG-level transfers, including changes in the Dhaka and Khulna ranges. Dhaka Range DIG Md Rezaul Karim has been transferred as DIG of Khulna Range, replacing Md Mustafizur Rahman.

Mustafizur Rahman has been transferred from Khulna Range and appointed as DIG of Dhaka Range. The changes will place new officials in charge of the two major police ranges.

Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) DIG Mohammad Muslim has been transferred as director of the Central Police Hospital in Rajarbagh. Special Branch DIG Mir Ashraf Ali has been transferred as DIG of Railway Police.

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Metrorail DIG Siddiqui Tanzilur Rahman has been transferred as DIG of the Special Branch.

The transfers come as part of a broader reshuffle of senior positions in the Bangladesh Police, with the latest gazette notifications changing leadership across Police Headquarters, Special Branch, Tourist Police, the Bangladesh Police Academy, police ranges and specialised units.
