Six Awami League Leaders and Activists Arrested in Gulshan Over Secret Meeting
Bangladesh police arrested six leaders and activists of the Awami League during a secret meeting at a restaurant in the capital’s Gulshan area on Friday night. The raid took place at approximately 9:30 PM on the fifth floor of Police Plaza, led by Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Daud Hossain.
The detainees have been identified as Mehedi Masud Chowdhury, 55; SM Rezwan Habib Alif, 33; Nannu Mia, 38; Aminur Rahman, 42; Sajal Ahmed, 29; and Ibrahim Hossain, 33. Confirming the operation, OC Daud Hossain stated that law enforcement acted on confidential information regarding the gathering.
"Acting on confidential information, we learned that several Awami League leaders and activists were holding a secret meeting at a restaurant on the fifth floor of Police Plaza," OC Daud said. "Based on that information, we conducted a drive there and arrested six activists."
According to initial police interrogations, the group had planned to stage a procession in the capital following the conclusion of their meeting. Authorities confirmed that subsequent legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway.
