Bomb Scare at Two Metro Rail Stations Ends with False Alarm

Panic spread across the capital on Saturday afternoon following reports of bomb-like abandoned objects under the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro rail stations.

Upon receiving the reports, police reinforced security around both key locations, and the Bomb Disposal Unit of DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit conducted thorough searches at both sites. Detailed inspections revealed that the bag at Mirpur-10 contained only an empty zarda (chewing tobacco) canister, while the sack found at Farmgate was completely empty.

Police received alerts between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM on Saturday (August 1) regarding suspicious abandoned items placed near the ground-level lifts on the western side of both metro stations. Law enforcement personnel immediately cordoned off the surrounding areas to ensure public safety.

Confirming the incident to The Daily Campus, DMP Mirpur Zone Additional Police Commissioner Farzina Nasrin stated, "We received information regarding a bomb-like object under the Mirpur-10 metro station. Police immediately secured the spot. Upon examination, the Bomb Disposal Unit found a zarda canister inside the bag; no explosives were present."

A simultaneous scare unfolded under the Farmgate metro rail station. Speaking to The Daily Campus, DMP Tejgaon Zone Additional Police Commissioner confirmed that an abandoned sack discovered under the station was examined by the CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit and verified to be completely empty.

The back-to-back alerts at two of Dhaka's busiest transit hubs caused temporary fear among commuters and local residents before authorities officially declared both areas secure.

The scare follows a recent security incident on July 24, when an "umbrella bomb" was discovered and neutralized under the Motijheel metro rail station, an event that left one pedestrian injured.
