Court Grants Bail to Dipu Moni
Former Minister and Joint General Secretary of the banned Awami League, Dr. Dipu Moni, has been granted bail in one out of seven cases filed against her across various police stations in the capital. For the remaining six cases, the court issued a rule asking why she should not be granted bail.
The High Court bench consisting of Justice Md. Khairul Alam and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Wednesday (June 3).
During the 15-year tenure of the previous Awami League government, Dr. Dipu Moni served in several high-profile cabinet roles, including Foreign Minister, Education Minister, and Social Welfare Minister. Following the collapse of the Awami League administration on August 5, 2024, she went into hiding before being arrested by the police on the night of August 19 from the capital's Baridhara area.
Since her arrest, the former minister has been implicated in a wave of legal proceedings. Over 38 cases have been lodged against her nationwide, carrying severe allegations that include murder, crimes against humanity, corruption, and ordering acts of mass violence.
