A team from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) has arrested Hasib Chowdhury, 21, the sole named accused in a sensational rape and pornography case filed with Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur. The arrest was made during a drive conducted late Tuesday night (June 2) in the Palashi Intersection area under Lalbagh Police Station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The arrested individual, Hasib Chowdhury, is the son of Liton Chowdhury, hailing from the Mollarhat area under Hijla Police Station in Barisal district.

According to details obtained from RAB sources and the case statement, Hasib had initially established a romantic relationship with the victim through Facebook. On the afternoon of February 11, 2024, under the pretext of going sightseeing, Hasib took the victim to a restaurant located in the Charkamalapur area of Faridpur town. Once there, he allegedly assaulted the victim after falsely promising marriage. Hasib also secretly recorded video footage and took intimate photographs of the assault on his mobile phone.

Following the incident, he began threatening the victim, stating he would leak the offensive photographs and videos onto the internet unless she paid him a ransom of 10 lakh BDT.

Unable to bear the extortion, the victim filed a formal case as the plaintiff with the Faridpur Kotwali Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act. Following the filing of the case, the investigating officer sent an official requisition slip to the Commanding Officer of RAB-10 to assist in locating the suspect, prompting the elite force to intensify its intelligence surveillance.

Utilizing advanced information technology, an operational team from the Lalbagh Camp of RAB-10 successfully tracked and arrested Hasib from the Palashi Intersection last night. During the arrest, law enforcement personnel recovered two smartphones, two identity cards, and four ATM cards from various commercial banks from his possession.

During preliminary interrogation, Hasib fully confessed to his crimes and admitted that he had been moving across different areas to evade law enforcement agencies. The arrested accused has since been handed over to the relevant police station for the execution of subsequent legal procedures.
