Serial Rapist Rabbi Arrested in Dhaka: 13 Victims in Just 2 Months, All Aged 18-20

Police have arrested a serial rapist, Rashedul Islam Rabbi (25), who allegedly lured school and college girls in the capital through social media using fake female profiles, offered gifts, raped them, recorded videos, and blackmailed them for repeated sexual relations and money.

The arrest was announced on Wednesday (15 April) at a press conference by DMP’s Wari Division Deputy Commissioner Md. Ahsan Uddin Sami. Also present were Additional Commissioner Mohsin Masud Rana of Demra Zone, Assistant Commissioner Arifa Priti from the Media Division, and Officer-in-Charge Raju Hossain of Jatrabari Police Station.

According to police, Rabbi used social media to promise gifts and, speaking in a female voice, would call victims to an under-construction building in Jatrabari’s Goalbari area. There, he would rape them forcibly and record the acts on his mobile phone. Later, he used the videos to blackmail the victims into further sexual relations and extorted money from them. He also stole their cash, mobile phones, and gold jewellery.

DC Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami said Rabbi first created a fake Facebook account with a female identity. He cleverly took control of one victim’s mobile phone and then used her social media accounts and SIM to contact other girls from her friend list. Speaking in a female voice, he built deep friendships and later invited them to the under-construction building on the pretext of exchanging gifts. He took them to the 5th floor, where he raped them against their will and recorded the nude videos.

He then threatened to upload the videos on social media or porn sites to force the victims into repeated sexual relations and extort money regularly.

The DC mentioned that on Friday (20 March) at around 1:20 PM, he lured one victim to the building on the pretext of a family meet-up, raped her, and recorded the act. He later threatened to spread the video on dark porn sites and Telegram to force her into regular sexual relations.

Subsequently, using the first victim’s phone, he targeted another girl. On Monday (6 April), he called her for a dress delivery and took her to the 4th floor of the same building, where he held her for two hours, raped her, and stole her phone and cash.

On Thursday (9 April) evening, he attempted to molest another victim, threatened her, and snatched her phone, cash, and gold ornaments.

Jatrabari Police, with the help of technological evidence, identified and arrested him on Saturday (13 April) evening in front of Donia College. Three cases under the Pornography Control Act have already been filed against him. He has been sent to court.

Police recovered five mobile phones belonging to victims from his possession. The DC said they have received complaints from at least 10 victims so far, all following the same pattern, and most victims are from the Mirpur area. Investigations are ongoing to check if he committed similar crimes elsewhere.

It was also revealed that Rabbi used the same method to trap and marry one of his victims. In the last two months alone, he committed 13 such incidents. All victims were aged between 18 and 20 years.
