RS Fahim Chowdhury Jailed Over Gulshan Murder Case

Content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury has been sent to jail in connection with a murder case filed at Gulshan Police Station in the capital related to the anti-discrimination movement.

On Monday (30 March) afternoon, police produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka. Since the investigating officer was on leave, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station prayed for him to be kept in jail custody. The hearing will be held before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Moktar Hossain of the prosecution wing.

Earlier, on Sunday (29 March) afternoon, Fahim was detained by local people and a group of students from Mirpur Zoo area in the capital. He was later handed over to Shah Ali Police Station and subsequently transferred to Gulshan Police Station.

According to the case statement, on 19 July during the anti-discrimination movement, thousands of students and people were marching in front of Subastu Market in Shahjadpur, Gulshan. On instructions from the then government and top leaders of the ruling party, Awami League and its affiliated organisations, along with law enforcement members, opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters.

At that time, the victim Md. Imran was returning home from his workplace. When he expressed solidarity with the protesters and chanted slogans, he was shot and seriously injured by unidentified accused. He was taken to United Hospital in Gulshan, where he died at 7:05 p.m. that evening. The case was filed at Gulshan Police Station in April 2025.
